I must say that the Taiwan armed forces here have a unique changing of the guard 'act' that is not aggressive 'proud' like the China military, 'fanciful' like the French, or 'meticulous' like the British forces, but is a bit like a 'ballet' routine--understated & polite.
On the streets of Taiwan, you can find many beauticians who will use a piece of rope to 'snatch/yank away' your facial hair--one at the time. And it is not painless--not talking from experience :)
Saw this old man who sat very comfortable enjoying the air-conditioning on the floor in Taipei's main train station, reading his newspaper with his monocle...love Leica's sharp lenses :)
Taiwan's military, with China at this island's doorstep...still a need for them--every male citizen still has to do 1 year of compulsary military conscription.
