I suspect much of the magic of the shot lies in the silent message this woman is sending to me; "I clearly see that you're pointing your stupid camera at me. I despise you for harassing innocent people with your lack of respect, however, my attitude is to neglect you." A while ago someone in a B&H review described the Apo Telyt as "ridiculously sharp". I agree; it is really a very sharp lens. Some weeks later, though, I read what JT wrote about the Apo Sonnar, and became curious. Then, last month, I stumbled over one in mint condition, at a very reasonable "used" price in a serious pro photo shop. I decided to sacrifice a Elmarit 24/2,8 ASPH, a wonderful lens which I bought new almost 20 years ago, but which for me fell between my Lux 21 and Cron 28. So, I traded. And - I'm still in a state of severe shock. The Apo Sonnar cannot be described; it has to be experienced. The issue where Leica lenses are unbeatable is size and weight; this monster must be near three times the weight of the tiny, elegant Telyt, and I will not be able to sell the Telyt, BUT . . I simply have to solve this problem somehow . . possibly by pushups . . which may prove a bit late at my age. I took the Sonnar to a concert last night, very low light level; I would have been dead with 3,4 (Telyt) - I will post a couple of samples!
This is indeed Trillium Lake in Oregon taken in late October this year. Palmer Snow Field (under the ski lifts) on the middle flank of the mountain is barren for the first time in my memory. Thanks for the taking a look!
