The car is a 1935 Stout Scarab (it does look stout, does it not?), designed by William Stout. Only nine cars were produced, and it cost $5000. This one resides in the Owls Head Transportation Museum, on the coast of Maine - an absolutely delightful place to wander amongst all sorts of vehicles, from bicycles to cars to airplanes.
