She is important for facing a powerful mayor who was 12 years in power. A person that considering by many people to be invincible and who lost for more than twelve thousand votes. She managed to unify almost all the sectors of our society. Something that had never happened and joined them against to fight against an abusive government. In case of the defeated mayor, he was a discriminatory, violent, intolerant person and offensively against the arts and the culture of our Country. Although I am older than she is but I want to think like many people here in Puerto Rico, that Carmen brings an opening, hope, peace inside in a country so divided as ours and a warmth to others that we need.
