Oberwerth, the Germany based maker of handcrafted leather camera bags and accessories, has launched its new Cognac Series, a coordinated line of pieces for Leica photographers, united by a single warm, vegetable tanned leather. The series began with a request that reached Oberwerth again and again to bring back the warm cognac tone that once distinguished classic camera accessories. Together with a small, family run tannery in Tuscany, the company spent half a year refining the recipe in a slow, purely vegetable tanning process. The result is a full-grain cowhide with warm depth and character; a leather that develops a beautiful patina over the years and makes every piece one of a kind.
