I saw this couple on a rainy day in Times Square and I was lucky enough to get this candid shot. This was their first visit to NYC. I believe this is truly a "Forever Remembered" moment. This photograph reminds me of vintage Stieglitz and my favorite element is how the curve of the umbrella follows the curve of the light pole behind it. This arc is a delicate counterpoint to the vertical buildings and reinforces the romantic mood.
I moved from South Africa to London in 2007 and left my beloved dog (who lives with my parents). Each year I came back to visit and she would bound with joy. She died yesterday - 4 weeks before my trip home. This was the last photograph I ever took of her - last year when I was leaving. Looking back at it now, it almost seems she knew she would not see me again. Gone, but not never forgotten, my loyal friend.
