If you set the time, restart the camera, and find that it accurately remembered the time you entered, your hardware’s internal backup battery/capacitor is fine.
Instead, the culprit lies in Firmware 4.2.0. Performing a manual menu reset or going through the initial out of the box boot sequence flags the camera with an unfulfilled security handshake requirement. The local firmware script simply refuses to flag the initial setup checklist as "complete" without a certified time sync signature. Because you skipped the Leica FOTOS app, the system gets stuck waiting for an authorization signal that never arrives.
How to Bypass It (No App Required)
You do not need to install Leica FOTOS on your phone or compromise your standalone setup. To break the firmware out of the initialization lock
Power off the camera and remove the battery.
Wait 30–60 seconds to clear the active Maestro IV system cache.
Re insert the battery and power the camera back on. This should boot you back into the setup mode.
Select language and set your desired display language as usual.
When you reach the Leica FOTOS prompt screen, cancel the app setup and confirm you wish to skip the app setup.
If this is your 2nd time around going through the setup process, you will likely see your previously entered date and time settings. This means the settings were actually saved. If its's your first time, set the date and time.
At this point this is where the frustration kicks in. There is no way to continue. You are forced to go through the process again, only to reach the same end. But fret not, the magic simple trick is. Because the menu buttons and touch controls are ignoring you on this screen, you need to use a high priority hardware trigger to break the software loop.
