Anybody got both an M8+M9? I would love to see a comparison for details and toning in B&W rendered images of the same scene.

ced,

It is all related to what you wish to get. Please see my todays uploads. You can get something like a contrasty Plus-X 125 mode in Exposure 5 or an alternative in HP5+ in True Grain.
I hope I was of some help.

CED,

I just uploaded some samples for you. Probably is not exactly my style of editing but for comparison reasons I tired to make the B&Ws as conservative as possible.

Still looking for a comparison between M8-M9 for tonality, details and B&W. Important to use the same lens and fstop.

Baz, That would be great if you could make this comparison, I would also appreciate if the raw files would be accessible. I hope you have a great trip to the Dominican Republic & return safely!

Hi Ced, I have the 8 and 9 and have used them side by side for the last two years. I have not done the comparison you require however I am off to Dominican Republic in a few days and if I think of it I will do an a-b for you/us. The M8 sensor is sharper, I am not sure how much characteristic flavour and signiture you will get from my stuff as I shoot to process. I will try and find something that I can show you straight out of the can. The pics I uploaded today are all M8. Baz.

NB the best thing about the 8 is the small raw files.

Hello,
next time I would make a shot with M9 and M8 for comparison. The images I would convert with C1 to make B&W.
Capture One has many good defaults and several tools to make B&W.
Horst.
